Jaguar Conservation Small Grants Program

NEXT DEADLINE: January 1, 2008

The Jaguar Conservation Program (JCP) was established by WCS to conserve and manage jaguars and their habitat throughout their current range. The Jaguar Conservation Small Grants Program was created to help acheive this mission. Awards are for one year and are renewable contingent on the first year's performance. The Small Grants Program is designed to support individual field research projects on jaguars that share our philosophy, approach, and conservation focus.

The JCP Small Grants Program will not limit any individual from applying, however, we would prefer that our grantees be:

  • Professional conservationists from the country of research, and/or
  • Post-graduates pursuing a higher degree.

Restrictions
Please consider the following restrictions before submitting your proposal:

  • Organizations are not eligible for funding
  • Faculty and/or research advisors should not be listed as principal investigators unless they plan to carry out the majority of the field work
  • The principal researcher must write the proposal, as applications written on behalf of another individual will be disallowed.

Evaluation Criteria
Proposals are evaluated on a competitive basis. Applications are screened by outside technical reviewers and JCP staff. Projects are evaluated on:

  • Relevance to jaguar conservation
  • Scientific merit & value, and
  • Appropriateness for the JCP and WCS Latin America Program

Closing Dates
The JCP Committee meets twice a year to make funding decisions; JCP Small Grants applications are due on January 1st and July 1st.  Final decisions and awards are usually announced at the end of February and August, respectively.

Application Procedure
This application package consists of a cover sheet, proposal fact sheet, project outline, animal handling requirements, and proposal checklist.
The enclosed cover sheet must be submitted with your proposal. We prefer to receive proposals and attachments ELECTRONICALLY via email, as one single file. Applications must be submitted in English.
