An important appeal from Dr. Alan Rabinowtiz

 

Jaguar Advisory Group (JAG)

To provide international expertise, input and direction to the administration and management of the Jaguar Conservation Program, WCS has created a Jaguar Advisory Group (JAG). This advisory group consists of:

  

Dr. Alan Rabinowitz, Director of the WCS Science and Exploration  Program. Dr. Rabinowitz worked with jaguars in Belize in the early 1980's and was instrumental in establishing the world's first jaguar preserve.

  

Dr. Andrew Taber, Director of the WCS Latin America Program. Dr. Taber has worked with jaguars and puma in Bolivia and Paraguay since the 1980s.

  

Dr. Peter Crawshaw Jr., Director for National Center for Research and Conservation of Carnivores in Brazil. Dr. Crawshaw conducted research on jaguars in Brazil and Argentina in the 1980s and early 1990s and supports and supervises a number of ongoing jaguar research projects throughout Brazil.

  

Dr. Rafael Hoogesteijn is a veterinarian and General Manager of four extensive zebu cattle ranches in Venezuela. Dr. Hoogesteijn has conducted research on the impact of cattle ranching on jaguar and puma populations throughout Venezuela.

  

Mr. Marcelo Aranda is a research associate at the Instituto de Ecologia, A.C., Mexico. (http://www.ecologia.edu.mx). He has conducted research on jaguar populations in Mexico.
